Care and Repair
Washing and Aftercare

Caring for Pertex fabrics is very simple and it will help maintain high performance throughout the lifetime of the product. Due to the range of garment constructions, we advise that you should check the care label inside your garment and follow any specific instructions before referring to the below information.

Washing your windshell/waterproof jacket

One of the most important ways to care for your Pertex windshell/waterproof jacket is to wash it regularly. This removes dirt and oils that can build up on the fabric and affect your jackets performance.

Before washing always read the care label inside the jacket and follow any specific instructions provided. Close all zips, fasten any Velcro straps and ensure the pockets are empty.

For the best results we recommend using a specific performance clothing product such as Nikwax Tech Wash.

After washing, line or hang dry your jacket. Alternatively, if the care label allows, tumble-dry on a low setting.

Restoring water repellency in your windshell/waterproof jacket

Pertex fabrics use a durable water repellent (DWR) finish to prevent the outside of the fabric from absorbing water. This DWR finish is key to maintaining the water resistance of your Pertex windshell/waterproof jacket.

Over time, this DWR finish will become less effective. If the care label on your jacket allows, you can ‘reactivate’ the DWR by tumble-drying on a low setting for 30 minutes.

After extensive wear and washing, you may need to reapply the DWR to your jacket. There are many products available, we recommend using Nikwax TX.Direct. Follow the instructions on the specific product you use.

Washing your down jacket

Due to complex constructions and large amount of down fill, we recommend that expedition and large box wall down jackets be cleaned professionally. Before washing always read the care label inside the jacket and follow any specific instructions provided. Close all zips, fasten any Velcro straps and ensure the pockets are empty. For the best results we recommend using a specific down cleaning product such as Nikwax Down Wash Direct.

In order to ensure that the down is completely dry and maximum loft is restored, we recommend tumble-drying your jacket on a low setting. Adding a few tennis balls to the tumble drier with your jacket will prevent the down clumping. Tumble-drying your down jacket will help to restore the fabric’s durable water repellent (DWR) finish.
